Ludington Earth Day Events

April 20th, 2024

Each April, AFFEW (A Few Friends for the Environment of the World) hosts an annual Earth Day event in Ludington.

The event is held at the Ludington United Methodist Church- 5810 E. Bryant Rd. from 10:30am-4pm. The 2024 theme is “Planet vs. Plastics” and the event includes a variety of speakers, informational booths representing the community and our partners, activities for children including a live reptile show and a guided hike, and tours of the U Dig It Community Garden located behind the church.

Here's the schedule for the 2024 event:

  • 10am – Doors Open
  • 10:30-11:30am – Butterflies and Skippers of Mason County with Dave Dister
  • 11-11:45am – Free Spirit Drum Circle
  • 11am-1pm – Storytime for Kids & Book Giveaway with Miss Emily
  • 11am-2pm – Electric Car Display 
  • 11am-3pm – Informational & Educational Booths
  • 11am-3pm – Earthly Treats with Dannee & Kay (Sandwiches and snacks)
  • 11:30am-2pm – Tours of the U-Dig It Community Garden
  • 12-1pm – Keynote Address: “If Atoms Could Talk”: The Electric Vehicle Revolution with Mary Fortier
  • 1:30-2:30pm – Reptiles and Amphibians with Jim McGrath
  • 2-2:45pm – Free Spirit Drum Circle
  • 2:30pm – Guided Nature Walk with Dave Dister
  • 2:45-3:45pm – Water Sampling & Degradation to Streams/Water Bodies with Symon Cronk

All Day Events:

  • Kids Events: Reptiles & Amphibians, Button making, Seed starting, Exploring nature with microscopes
  • AFFEW booth:  Shirts, Student Tote Bags & Online Native Plant Sale Info
