The most popular state park in the Midwest offers so much to visitors, from the miles of trails to Big Sable Point Lighthouse to two beaches. But most associate the Ludington State Park with camping, and the four campgrounds within the park fill up months before the summer season. Whether you prefer modern or primitive camping, the Ludington State Park has it all, surrounded by natural woodlands, water and dunes. There are a total of 355 sites among all the campgrounds, including three mini-cabins. Scroll down for Ludington State Park campground descriptions, and then book your reservation for a great experience!
The Beechwood Campground is closest to the Hamlin Lake Beach. There are 147 modern sites with electricity (some sites have 50 amp service), modern showers & restrooms, mini-cabin, playground, recycle center, and certain sites that are handicap accessible. You can access the Lost Lake Trail from the northern section of the campground and the Coast Guard Trail from the middle section. There is also a boardwalk on the eastern side of the campground.
The Cedar Campground is between Beechwood and Pines campgrounds and features 110 modern sites with electricity, mini-cabins, modern showers & restrooms, playground, and eight sites for tents only (no electricity). Near the entrance to Cedar Campground you’ll find the Campground Host and the Park Store. Cedar Campground is the only one of the four campgrounds that is open all year long.
The Pines Campground has 98 modern sites with electricity (some with 50 amp service), modern showers & restrooms, mini-cabin, and certain handicap accessible sites. From this campground you can head out on the Logging Trail to the north or the Lighthouse Trail to the northwest which takes you out to Big Sable Point Lighthouse.
The Jackpine Campground is for hike-in only and there are 10 remote tent sites. There is no electricity and restrooms are rustic. Supplies must be bicycle packed or backpacked in one mile from the designated parking area. Location is north of the Pines Campground and is one mile from Big Sable Point Lighthouse.
There are three mini cabins located in the Ludington State Park. There is one cabin in each campground: Beechwood, Pines and Cedar. Each cabin has one double bed plus three single beds, for up to five people to sleep. Cabins also include a mini refrigerator, electric wall heater, and a table and chairs.
A picnic table, a fire pit and a waist-high cooking grill are outdoors at the cabin. You must provide your own linens and cookware.
The cabins all have electricity.
Over 18 miles of trails can be found throughout the park, where you can choose a leisurely 30-minute walk to a more vigorous 3-hour hike. Rent a canoe, kayak, or paddle board and view the state park from a totally different angle. Tube down the Sable River, take in a performance at the amphitheater, or spend the day at the beach. Boredom is simply not possible at Ludington State Park!
