The Ludington and Scottville Branches of the Mason County District Library are dedicated to providing a vast array of educational, fun, free programs to our communities. In addition to regularly scheduled programs, they frequently host special events for both kids and adults. All events/programs at the Mason County District Libraries are free.
Summers are so much fun at the Mason County District Libraries, the kids may not want to go to the beach! The Summer Reading Program is for kids of all ages, with Read to Me for kids up to eight years, Independent Readers for those 5-13 years, and Teen Readers for 11-18 years. Incentives include book bags, local merchant gift certificates, books, and small toys. Just 20 minutes of reading a day!
During the summer months there are also weekly crafts for kids ages six years and older, Science Camps in July and many special programs as well as the ongoing weekly programs.
All events at the Mason County District Libraries are free.
First built in 1906 after receiving a grant from Andrew Carnegie, the Ludington branch of the Mason County District Library is over 100 years old and is proud of its heritage and excited about the future.
The Scottville branch first opened in March 1906 with 2,500 books. Today, there are close to 70,000 books, as well as computer stations that the public can use for free. The goal of the library is children’s literacy- encouraging children to read and engaging their minds, hands, and curiosity.
Despite all the stimuli in today’s world–from movies and television to video games and ipods–it’s nice to know that libraries will always be here. The Mason County District Library is an integral part of our Ludington community, and will be for years to come.
