Pere Marquette Conservation Park

In August of 2021, the Pere Marquette Charter Township unveiled the new Pere Marquette Conservation Park, located on 300 acres of land that was formerly Dow Chemical property. The acquisition consisted of a bulk amount of acreage on Lakeshore Drive and Iris Road, and also a 36 acre parcel off of Pere Marquette Highway where a Community Access Site has been built on the Pere Marquette River.

The Community Access site can be found at 1107 S. Pere Marquette Highway and features a boardwalk, boat launch with dock, handicapped-accessible fish cleaning station, restrooms, and a shaded picnic pavilion. The park features asphalt driveways and concrete sidewalks so the area is barrier-free for all users.

The boardwalk is 6 foot wide along the river’s edge and ideal for fishing. There are no fees or parking passes necessary to access the features of the park.

The venture was made possible by a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant, the Pennies from Heaven Foundation, Tom Paine of Metalworks, and various community foundations.
